Second stop: Enjoy the independent shops, play park and restaurant

Head back over to the square for a mooch around the delightful independent shops. Pick up fabulous gifts and homeware at Yolk General Store and browse local produce at Culter Perennials Farm Shop.

While you shop, the kids can let off some steam at the the most scenic park down by the River Dee, which is suitable for all ages but no dogs allowed. Or if they bring their wellies they can enjoy a splash in the burn outside Maison Castaine. Refuel with lunch at Milton Brasserie, which has something for everyone and some seats outside in their sun trap!

Don’t miss: A scenic walk along the river

Take a wander through the woods to find the perfect resting spot by the river. Keep your eyes peeled for local wildlife along the way - you might spot otters, herons and even fish jumping in the water!
