A riverside walk and café stop at Potarch

It’s simple, doesn’t need much planning and has everything we need in one place: a good walk, lovely food and somewhere for Maeva to play.

First stop: Walk along the River Dee

We usually start with a walk along the river to work up an appetite. The riverside path has gorgeous views at any time of year and is well maintained, so it’s easy to manage with a buggy. It’s also a good route for little ones on bikes or tricycles.

You can make the walk as long or short as you like, which makes it an easy option whether you have a couple of hours to fill or want to spend half a day here.

You can park at Potarch Café or beside the green and play park.

Next stop: Potarch Café

After the walk, head to Potarch Café for coffee and something to eat. The menu has lots of lovely brunch and lunch options, and the coffee and bakes are always really good too.

There’s seating both indoors and outside, and dogs are welcome, so you don’t have to leave them behind for this one.

Don’t miss

After the café, we usually head over to the park or stop at the small play area behind the café. Both are close by, so little ones can have a play before you head home.

Why we love it

In the warmer months, we love having a paddle or dip in the Dee when the conditions are safe. Potarch Café also occasionally runs burger nights, which means this route can work just as well for a later afternoon or early-evening visit.
